TL;DR:
TinyIMG checks the readability of your product titles and descriptions using 7 standard formulas like Flesch and Gunning Fog. We clean the text, run the analysis, and show which scores pass. If at least 3 out of 7 pass, your content is marked as readable - helping improve SEO, AI understanding, and user experience.

How we check readability

We automatically evaluate the readability of your product titles and descriptions to ensure they’re clear, accessible, and optimized for both your customers and AI models. We use a set of industry-standard readability formulas to measure how easy your content is to read.

Why it matters

Readable content:

  • Boosts customer trust and conversions

  • Improves SEO performance

  • Helps AI models better understand your content

  • Makes your store more accessible to a wider audience

How we do it

We use the TextStatistics library by Dave Child to analyze your content. Before analyzing, we:

  • Decode HTML entities

  • Remove non-breaking spaces and HTML tags

  • Clean the text to ensure accurate scoring

We then run your content through seven well-known readability formulas:

Readability scores we check

1. Flesch reading ease

  • Measures how easy the text is to read

  • Higher = better

  • Passes if score is ≥ 45

2. Flesch-Kincaid grade level

  • Converts readability into a U.S. school grade level

  • Lower = easier

  • Passes if score is ≤ 10

3. Gunning fog score

  • Estimates the years of education needed to understand the text

  • Includes sentence length and complex words

  • Passes if score is ≤ 12

4. SMOG index

  • Focuses on polysyllabic (3+ syllables) words

  • Designed for healthcare and educational materials

  • Passes if score is ≤ 11

5. Coleman-Liau index

  • Based on average characters per word and words per sentence

  • Uses character count instead of syllables

  • Passes if score is ≤ 12

6. Automated readability index

  • Similar to Coleman-Liau but designed for typewritten content

  • Considers characters per word and words per sentence

  • Passes if score is ≤ 10

7. Dale-Chall score

  • Compares your words against a list of 3,000 commonly known words

  • Penalizes unfamiliar or complex words

  • Passes if score is ≤ 7.5

How we determine readability status

Each formula returns a score. If at least 3 out of the 7 formulas pass their respective thresholds, we mark the content as "readable".

This makes it easy to spot problems and improve your content for real people and search systems.

How to make text more readable

  • Use short sentences

  • Choose simple, everyday words

  • Avoid jargon and filler

  • Break up long paragraphs

  • Use active voice

  • Add headings or bullet points for structure

  • Focus on clarity over cleverness

Readable content gets more attention, performs better in search, and converts more effectively.
