Large image files can result in slow page load time and hurt Core Web Vitals results. Compress images or use modern formats like WebP to reduce the file size.
What to do: Review the images listed in the audit and reduce their file sizes where possible without significantly affecting visual quality.
Oversized images can slow down your store and affect Core Web Vitals. Our image optimization tool helps reduce image file sizes while maintaining good image quality. Shopify also automatically serves WebP images when supported, so optimizing the original images is usually enough to improve loading speed.
We automatically optimize live product images, collection images, assets and hero article images. Theme images such as banners must be optimized manually, as Shopify has limitations for these images. To manually optimize images, please go to Improve Speed → Optimize Images.
If images are still oversized after optimization, we recommend using JPG format and resizing images to a smaller resolution when possible.
